How to Market On Twitter without Annoying Your Followers

Marketing on the Internet can be a delicate process. If you push the envelope too much, customers may complain and vow not to give you their money or time. However, if you don’t market at all, you don’t do your business any favors. How can you find a good balance on social media? How do you keep your bottom line intact on Twitter without annoying your followers?

Tone Down Plugging Your Service or Product

If you want to avoid problems, try toning down how often and how much you plug your business. Don’t write several tweets in the span of a few hours about a product coming out. Avoid responding to all messages with a link to your site. Limit yourself to one tweet and one message a day that focuses on marketing. Use the rest of your Twitter time to socialize and provide relevant and useful information. For example, if you sell grills, tweet tips for making the perfect barbecue sauce.

Show Customers How They Can Benefit From Marketing

Reward your followers for keeping up with you and sneak in marketing at the same time. Announce a photo contest and ask people to take pictures of themselves using your product. Give the winner a fabulous prize. Send coupons to people who retweet a particular message. Remember to keep up the momentum. Don’t go weeks without updating your account. Followers may lose interest and move on to the competition. If you find yourself short on ideas, pay attention to what other businesses chose to do on Twitter. What do they tweet? How do they interact with others? Do they have more followers? If so, why is this the case?

If you want your business to succeed, you have to reach outside your local community and try your hand at online marketing. However, you must do so in a way that doesn’t annoy current and potential customers. You don’t want people to label you a spammer. How do you avoid a negative label? What steps should you take to keep a good online reputation as you market? When it comes to Twitter, there are certain things you can do. You can thrive if you don’t push too hard.
