Vehicle Decals FAQ
Will the decals damage my paint or leave marks when removed?
Can I apply decals to the windows? Will it affect visibility or defrosters?
Yes, you can absolutely apply decals to windows, and we do it frequently for both advertising and decorative purposes. There are a couple of options for window decals: cut vinyl lettering/graphics or perforated window film. Cut vinyl (solid) is like putting the same kind of decal on glass as on paint. It blocks view wherever the vinyl is, so we usually keep that to small areas or edges so as not to impede driver visibility. For example, a common approach is to place your company’s DOT number or small logo on the rear side windows or a web URL on the back windshield – placed in a way that doesn’t obstruct critical views. White or light-colored vinyl works best on glass (as glass is dark). Solid decals on back or rear side windows are fine because you mostly use side mirrors to drive. However, we avoid putting solid graphics on the front windshield or front driver/passenger windows where it would obstruct your driving view (and it’s often not legal). Now, perforated window film is a special vinyl with tiny holes that allows visibility from inside while displaying a graphic on the outside (one-way vision). This is commonly used on rear windows of trucks (you might see full rear window ads but the driver can still see out). We can print on perf film and apply it to say the rear window of a van – from outside it looks like part of the wrap design, from inside you can see through it (slightly tinted view). It doesn’t affect defrosters or wipers significantly; those still work though constant wiper use may reduce the lifespan a bit on rear windows. Perf film does reduce clarity a little (like a tinted window with dots) but you can still see vehicles/objects fine. At night, with interior lights on, perf is less private, but in daytime it’s great. We use perf for larger window coverage in wraps. For small logos on a window, we’d just use cut vinyl because it’s simpler and sharper. As for defrosters, applying vinyl (especially perf) over them is fine; when removing, just be gentle not to scrape the defroster lines, but heat and peel should pose no problem. The defroster heat itself doesn’t harm the vinyl. Many rear window wraps with perf last years with defrosters used. So, yes – windows are real estate for graphics too, with a bit of planning to ensure safe visibility. We’ll guide you: e.g. “We can put your slogan across the top of your back windshield – that won’t block your view much and is effective.” Or “Your van’s rear windows can be fully wrapped with perf to continue the design, no visibility lost because you can still see out.” If anything is not advisable (like a huge solid decal in a sightline), we’ll steer away from that. We want you safe and street-legal.
What’s the difference between decals and magnets? Should I consider magnets for temporary use?
